Comanche's
main page

Progress: lots of little good changes happened today.

He got the day off yesterday. Today, we made many little, but significant steps forwards (pun intended). Picked up all feet, had 2 different saddle pads on him, and my crinckly vest, rubbed him all over with a pool toy, and got him the closest yet to a saddle (Slingshot was wearing the saddle) When Slingshot shook, he jumped, he stil won't let any saddled horse too close.

He is still wary of my hair -- of the little gestures, sudden and quick, I make to flip the hair over. I've been conscious to not sneak around him, and do all those things he should learn to ignore, and yet, I need to be aware to carefully show him what I do, and warn him before I flip my hair. Details of how we move around horses do count.

I picked up his foot after asking him to back and balance on his legs so this foot doesn't bear weight. Did this just after haltering, no running him around. The little approaches I made in the last few days payed off in the fact that he is relaxed and willing)
The full picture: I have Slingshot and Champ, both greenies, in the pen with Comanche. I've learned to like having other horses there. Comanche focuses on me quite well.
No problems picking up the hind, although I'm careful --the left hand is up there to rub and pet as a reward, but also to ask him to shift his weight over.
Easy!

Comanche has my noisy nylon vest over his back.
